Kim Bubbs talks about filming ‘On the Road’

How did you get involved with ‘On the Road’? That sounds like a cool project.

Yes! It’s a really cool project, and it’s a total departure from ‘The Thing.’ It’s based on Jack Kerouac’s famous book, and shot in seven locations throughout the world. In that film I play Sal Paradise’s — played by Sam Riley — real, true gal. At the end of his adventures he decides to change his life and settle down with Laura, who is my character. Great cast. The director is Walter Salles, who directed ‘The Motorcycle Diaries.’ I think it’s going to be a really exciting project coming out next year.

There are a lot of big names in the movie, like Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund. What was the dynamic like on set?

Most of my scenes were with Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley, who are fantastic. They’re amazing. This is a film that really toured around, just like the book. The funny part is that shooting ‘The Thing,’ we were wearing snowpants in May, June, and we were boiling. Then shooting ‘On the Road’ it was December and I was in a strapless ball gown. It was quite funny.

Sunday Quotes

“The great thing about being a great actress is you can do everything and I think she can do anything she wants.”

Garrett Hedlund

“Великото нещо в това да бъдеш страхотна актриса е, че можеш да правиш всичко и аз мисля че тя може да направи всичко, което поиска.

Garrett Talks Kristen,Twilight, and ‘On The Road’

Garrett Hedlund is a man of (not) many words. Even so, I did get the chance to chat with him at the Maui Film Festival, where he was honored with the Rising Star Award. Yes, Twi-hards, we talked about his On The Road costar Kristen Stewart…“The great thing about being a great actress is you can do everything and I think she can do anything she wants,” Hedlund said when I asked about Stewart’s upcoming turn as Snow White. He laughed when I joked about him hitting her up for a Twilight gig. “No, I never asked her for a part,” he said. “Which part would I ask her for?” As Hedlund first told me in December, “[Stewart] was signed on to the movie before the first Twilight ever hit theaters. She’s so good and she’s so devoted. She’s such an incredibly hard worker.” In the pic, based on Jack Keourac’s Beat Generation classic of the same name and directed by Walter Salles, Hedlund plays the character based on the late Neal Cassady. Hedlund and Salles recently met Carolyn Cassady, Neal’s second wife. “It was an era that changed so many people’s lives in the last 50 years or so,” Hedlund said. “It was a movement that was powerful and I feel so privileged to be a part of the film.”

Kristen Stewart’s Tortilla Soup: Garrett Hedlund’s Favorite

A lot of Kristen Stewart‘s co-stars have gushed about what it’s like working with the star of the Twilight film franchise, but few have been more enthusiastic than Kristen’s On the Road  castmate Garrett Hedlund.

Hedlund was charmed, it seems, by Kristen’s abilities in the kitchen. When asked about Stewart’s tortilla soup, Hedlund exclaimed, “It’s incredible. Perfect. She’s honed it.”

Fans have been looking for ways to recreate Stewart’s signature recipe, which she graciously shared with Vogue:

Soup

• 2 tbsp. Vegetable oil
• 1 can diced tomatoes
• 1 yellow onion, diced
• 2 jalapeño peppers, chopped
• 2 bell peppers, chopped
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 3 tbsp. ground cumin
• 4 cups chicken broth

Condiments

• 2 tsp. paprika
• 2 tsp. garlic salt
• 2 tbsp. chili powder
• 1 avocado, diced
• 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
• Fresh cilantro, chopped
• 2 flour tortillas
• Lime wedges

Directions

• Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
• Cook garlic, onion and cumin for a few minutes, until the onions are translucent.
• Add bell peppers, cook until tender — 2 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently.
• Stir in broth, tomatoes and jalapeños.
• Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring periodically.
• Cut tortillas into 2-inch wide strips, grill for a few minutes until toasted.
• Serve the soup in bowls and top with condiments.

Sienna Miller took her new man to one of her favourite haunts last night – the Groucho Club in London.

The actress, 29, spent the evening with her actor beau Tom Sturridge and Twilight actress Kristen Stewart at the Soho venue, a club she often frequents while in the capital.

Wearing a furry coat with a denim shirt, dark t-shirt and jeans and tan coloured boots Sienna and her companions left the club just before 3am.

Sturridge, 25, was a complete contrast to his girlfriend’s chic ensemble – the hairy actor slummed it in a trucker hat, checked shirt, jeans and dirt Converse trainers.

He also wore a T-shirt by Supreme featuring an image of Lady Gaga from her recent shoot for the label by photographer Terry Richardson.

Kristen Stewart, 21, completed the trio sporting her usual glum expression.

Failing to raise a smile as she exited the club, the Twilight actress wore a hooded jacket, dark top, jeans and blue canvas trainers.

According to witnesses the threesome had dinner at a restaurant in the St John Hotel in Chinatown, Soho from around 11pm and from there moved on to The Groucho club where they spent just over two hours together.

Tom isn’t the first boyfriend Sienna has taken to the famous club, in fact she has spent time at the venue with exes Jude Law, Rhys Ifans and Balthazar Getty.

Garrett Hedlund talks about OTR and Kristen

Starts at 1:25

Garrett Hedlund says filming the big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic “On The Road” with Kristen Stewart was an unforgettable experience.

“It was wonderful,” he told Access Hollywood at the 2011 Young Hollywood Awards on Saturday.

“It was such an incredible rare journey that we all got to take, so I’m very proud of it. My anticipation is just as high as every body else’s about it,” he explained of the film, based on the legendary beat generation novel where “The Twilight Saga” star plays Marylou and Garret portrays Dean Moriarity.

“Kristen’s phenomenal,” the “Tron: Legacy” star continued. “She’s so focused, especially on this role… she’s so amazing and the world is going to get to really see that in this one.”

The 26-year-old actor is happy that the film will finally hit theaters after taking years to get off the ground.

“I singed on to the role like four years ago and so for the last four years I’ve just been twiddling thumbs trying to get the thing made, and hoping for it to be made and so it’s finally done,” he told Access.

“On The Road” — which also features Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Buscemi and Terrence Howard — is due for release on December 10, 2011.

Kristen Stewart’s “On The Road” Co-Star Michael Sarrazin has passed away.

Michael Sarrazin, best known for his role as Jane Fonda’s marathon-dancing partner in Sydney Pollack’s 1969 drama They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, died of cancer earlier today at a Montreal hospital. Sarrazin was 70.

Less well known is that Sarrazin was offered the role of Joe Buck in John Schlesinger’s Oscar-winning Midnight Cowboy. Eventually, Jon Voight became a star – and earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination — for his performance as the hick-turned-urban sex worker.

Curiously, Sarrazin was bypassed at the Oscars that year, even though fellow They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? players Jane Fonda and Susannah York (who died earlier this year) were both nominated, and Gig Young was chosen as the year’s Best Supporting Actor.

Sarrazin (born May 22, 1940, in Quebec City) was also effective as a young man whose life is changed after he accidentally knocks down and kills a woman in Robert Mulligan’s underrated 1971 anti-establishment drama The Pursuit Happiness, co-starring Barbara Hershey. And he was a likable straight man to Barbra Streisand in Peter Yates’ 1974 comedy For Pete’s Sake. (Yates also died earlier this year.)

Among Sarrazin’s other notable film appearances were those in Harvey Hart’s The Sweet Ride (1968), playing a surfer opposite Jacqueline Bisset and Anthony Franciosa; John Huston’s The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972), once again with Bisset, in addition to Paul Newman and Ava Gardner; and Ted Kotcheff’s 1985 film adaptation of Mordecai Richler’s Joshua Then and Now.

Sarrazin also co-starred with off-screen romantic partner Bisset in the dismal melodrama Believe in Me (1971), in which he plays a doctor with a drug problem.

Perhaps most notable of all of his post-They Shoot Horses work was his “prodigal” son who returns to his family of fiercely independent loggers in Paul Newman’s film version of Ken Kesey’s novel Sometimes a Great Notion (1971), which starred Newman, Henry Fonda, and Lee Remick.

On television, Sarrazin scored a hit by playing The Creature in Frankenstein: The True Story (1973), but his film career lost impetus as the ’70s came to a close.

His last film role was in Walter Salles’ upcoming On the Road, in which he plays a priest. Based on Jack Kerouac’s novel, On the Road stars Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley, and Garrett Hedlund.
